Summer Message series: "Reason for God-- Belief in an Age of Skepticism"
When little is all you've got.... A city whose people live in humiliation and disgrace-- the spiritual heart of their city restored, but their walls burned and broken, leaving them open to the attacks and degradations of the enemy.... Hundreds of years later, a crowd of over 5,000 men, women and children, desperately needy, tired and hungry-- seeking a Savior and a healer, and with only 5 loaves and two fishes in the hands of a child... What do they have in common? HUGE needs and few resources. People who are broken, burned out, and bankrupt. But that's not the end of the story... Come and find out what Nehemiah, and the people of Jerusalem, and a hungry crowd, and a little boy, and 12 disciples... and South Riding Church, and you and me can will find: As the song goes, "Little is MUCH- when God's in it!" How can that be? Come and find out this Sunday as we explore how deeply God wants to take what little we think we have, and do such great things with it-- and what we can do to make ourselves ready: "When little is all you have, and you give it to God anyway?" (Neh 2; Matt 14) Beginning this Sunday at both 9am AND 10am we will worship in the Cafeteria! In order to give our incredible and awesome set-up/take-down team a break, we are moving both our Sunday worship services into the LRES Cafeteria. Nothing will change at 9am, but we won't have powerpoint or sound enhancement equipoment at 10am.... Instead, we will use written Worship Booklets that contain the WHOLE service, with inserts for songs and announcements. This will literally eliminate 80% of the set-up and take-down that our team does! Worried about the sound? Not to worry: the acoustics are actually BETTER in the cafeteria, and we intend to make the worship space more intimate and "holy" through the use of worship banners and dividers. And there will continue to be plenty of worship and prayer at 10am. Just a reminder: at 9am there is a fully staffed nursery and Sunday school ONLY for toddlers. Sunday school for K-8 remains at 10am only, in addition to the fully-staffed nursery and toddler care. We will open the gym up for play for the older children from 11:30-12:30pm. SUNDAY SEPT 7 12-2pm Please mark your calenders for South Riding Anglican's "Back from Summer" Picnic, Sunday September 7 at the home of Ben and Kim Langston, StoneRidge Is your Summer flying by? Does it seem like it's been forever since you have seen some familiar faces at church? Are you counting down the days until the kids go back to school? Summer may be coming to an end, but never fear, there is a whole congregation of family and friends to help usher you into the Fall! Please join us for a "Welcome Back" congregational picnic at The Langston's in Stone Ridge (24963 Calcite Place) immediately following the Sunday Sept 7th 10:00am service. Together, we'll welcome everyone back from summer vacations and ponder questions like "does the traffic seem even worse this year than years past?" and "don't you wish they could budget for a $50K playground when they build a multi-million dollar school?". Bring your stories about the bargains garnered at the South Riding Yard sale (happening Sat Sept 6th) or your summer vacation adventures. As always, friends, family, and kids are welcome (we plant to have chidcare workers available to help with the kids).. More details on activities and what to bring will follow. For now, just mark your calendars to be there and if you would like to help, please call Mary Derby (703-471-4861) or Kimberley Langston (703-327-4704). Have a great weekend -- and we'll see you on Sunday! Yours in Christ, Rev. J. Philip Ashey Rector, South Riding Church (Anglican)
